In recognition of the upcoming International Overdose Awareness Day (August 31st) and World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th) we first wanted to say if you or anyone you know is struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues, please know there are resources to help, some of which we have listed on our Town post linked below.
In recognition of Overdose Awareness Day the Town of Stonington will be partnering with LLHD and Stonington Prevention Council to provide the following events on Wednesday, August 31st (flyer on Town website).
9:00-9:30am Narcan Virtual Training– Open to the public, no registration, see link/numbers on Town site.
3:00-3:30pm Ledge Light Health District Community Outreach– Stop by Stonington Human to visit with LLHD partners, who will be distributing fentanyl test strips and Narcan. Did you know? More than 27,000 lives have been saved as a result of Narcan kits given to friends and family to reverse opioid overdoses around the US.
7:15pm: Vigil at the Stonington Town Dock- Stonington's Police Chief Jay DelGrosso and Rev. Ruth Shilling Hainsworth will say a few words in remembrance of those lost to overdose.
Thank you to Kristen King, the team at human services, LLHD, Stonington Police Department and all involved for working so hard to pull this together.
We hope many of you will join us for one or all events, as well as also help us share this event with those who may find it beneficial.
Together, let's help remove the stigma and work toward a better tomorrow.
