WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 16, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Justice announced the Judicial Branch of Connecticut has been awarded $3,437,400 to improve public safety in the state. The funding comes from the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which Rep. Courtney voted to pass one year ago in June of 2022.
“One year ago, my colleagues and I passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act— a critical step in our work to prevent gun violence and improve public safety. With today’s $3.4 million federal grant announcement, Connecticut residents are seeing the tangible benefits of how this legislation will help make the state a safer place to live and work. This funding will allow Connecticut’s judicial branch to help domestic violence survivors seek justice, issue more protective orders, and expand infrastructure to improve capacity. I look forward to seeing how the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act continues to pay dividends for eastern Connecticut.”

The Connecticut Judicial Branch requested funds for the following projects:

The project is anticipated to increase the number of protective orders, misdemeanor convictions for domestic violence, mental health records, and expungements.
2. Data Network Redesign – funds will be used to contract for a Program Manager and Engineers to undertake the network redesign to align the findings from the FBI CJIS Control Assessment with other modern and approaches. The purchase of network switches, storage server, log security and management software are included in the project.
