Rep. Joe Courtney, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 2nd district, recently shared his thoughts on various issues through social media posts. Courtney has been serving in Congress since 2007 and previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995.
On March 12, 2025, Rep. Joe Courtney emphasized that "it would take an act of Congress to eliminate the Education Department." He noted that when Congress voted on this issue in 2023, "60 Republicans, including one who now serves in President Trump’s cabinet, voted against it."
In another post dated March 12, 2025, Courtney highlighted the longstanding trade relationship between the United States and Australia. He stated that "the US & Australia have enjoyed free trade for 20 years because it’s in America’s best interests." Additionally, he mentioned a recent financial transaction under AUKUS where "Australia delivered a $500M check to the US Navy," with more payments forthcoming.
Later that day, Courtney addressed issues concerning Social Security. He pointed out that "Social Security payments have a 99.7% accuracy rate," adding that "every penny is accounted for by the Social Security Trustees." He accused Elon Musk of spreading misinformation about Social Security to undermine it and highlighted its importance for middle-class Americans' retirement.
