Mystic Museum of Art (MMoA) is pleased to present An Evening with Abigail Rockwell on August 30th at 5:30 p.m., as part of its record-breaking special exhibition Norman Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post Coverts: Tell Me a Story, on display through September 18. Organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA, the exhibition presents all 323 of the covers that Rockwell created for the most popular publication in America of its time.
More than 4,000 visitors from all over the world have already enjoyed this exhibition, returning with friends and family for a full range of programming that includes gallery talks, panel discussions, workshops and interviews. The exhibition also features a “visiting artists’ gallery,” modeled on Rockwell’s famous Triple Self Portrait, where visitors create their own self-portraits. Viewers have also left glowing testimonials in the exhibition guest book, commenting “a brilliant artist and an incredible walk-through

On August 30th at 5:30 p.m., An Evening with Abigail Rockwell will feature personal insights and outstanding scholarship in an engaging discussion of the life and art of Norman Rockwell (1894-1978), by the artist’s granddaughter, Abigail Rockwell, who also edited the definitive edition of Mr. Rockwell’s memoire. A book signing will follow.
“People continually ask what would Norman Rockwell possibly be painting today — the world is such a mess, going downhill, etc., etc.” Ms. Rockwell said. “`He’d be painting what he did for over 60 years…a country he truly loved and believed in. I see moments every day that are Norman Rockwell moments.”
Starting on February 13, 1960, The Saturday Evening Post published eight weekly excerpts from Rockwell’s memoire My Adventures as an Illustrator as Told to Tom Rockwell. Thomas Rockwell’s daughter, Abigail, undertook an enlarged and illustrated edition of the biography in time for the fiftieth anniversary of the Norman Rockwell Museum in 2019.
Having established a career as a jazz singer, Ms. Rockwell joined her father to administer the Norman Rockwell Family Agency and preserve the legacy of the artist she knew as “Pops.”
Abigail Rockwell is now one of the top Rockwell scholars in the world and recognized as such by the Norman Rockwell Museum, Sotheby’s, and the National Museum of American Illustration in Rhode Island.
