On July 26, 2022, The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation granted a $2,000 scholarship to a high school graduate in the region. The scholarship program focuses on students who plan to continue to contribute to Eastern CT through their future work.
Sawyer Hakkinen-Hendrick is the 2022 scholarship recipient. He graduated from Ledyard High School in June, and will attend Clark University in Worcester, Ma this Fall. His interests include science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. His focus this Fall will be Environmental Science with an emphasis on sustainability. He hopes to make an impact on generations to come through field work to help preserve the eco-systems regionally, and beyond.
“Following an economically challenging year for students and families, the Chamber Foundation is pleased to award a very deserving high school senior a $2,000 scholarship this year,” said Louis Ziegler, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation’s Board of Directors. “Our support of eastern CT’s rising workforce is vital in our recovering and growing economy. We are pleased to be able to provide this financial assistance to promising high school seniors pursuing higher education or exploring vocational training that will lead to careers in the region.”
Scholarship funding comes from generous local businesses and donors who support Foundation initiatives throughout the year, including the annual Holiday Gala, hosted virtually in 2021, and the annual Bowl-a-thon.
