Rep. Joe Courtney, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, used his social media platform to comment on recent national policy issues and local workforce developments in late August and early September 2025.
On August 30, Courtney addressed the legal limits of presidential authority regarding tariffs by posting, “A ruling which upholds what has been clear for months: President Trump doesn’t have the authority to impose his sweeping tariffs. Congress should pass the bipartisan Trade Review Act to end the price hikes Americans are facing under the President’s tariffs.”
Continuing his focus on economic and labor issues, Courtney posted again on September 1 about federal support for worker training programs. He wrote, “Now, we must reinvest in the federal programs that power our training pipelines and support workers on the job. I’m fighting back against the Trump Administration’s proposed cuts in funding to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and OSHA. We cannot let momentum stall.”
That same day, marking Labor Day, Courtney highlighted achievements within eastern Connecticut’s manufacturing sector: “Happy Labor Day! Eastern CT’s manufacturing sector is setting the standard for the nation. Our workforce training pipelines and “career pathways” curricula have connected thousands of students and job seekers to quality careers and higher education, and our labor unions are”
Courtney has served in Congress since defeating Rob Simmons in 2007 after a previous tenure in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953, he currently resides in Vernon. He holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and a JD from the University of Connecticut.
