Rep. Joe Courtney, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, recently shared his thoughts and experiences on Twitter regarding Armed Forces Day and a significant religious event in Rome. Courtney has been a longstanding figure in politics, having also served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995.
On May 17, 2025, Rep. Joe Courtney took to Twitter to acknowledge the contributions of military personnel. “On Armed Forces Day, we honor the servicemembers, current and former, who have worn our nation’s uniform. Your courage and dedication are the lifeblood of our nation.”
Later that day, he expressed enthusiasm about being part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation visiting Rome for a notable occasion. “Excited to be in Rome with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to attend the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV!”
The following day, on May 18, Courtney described his experience at St. Peter’s Basilica during Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural Mass. He noted the significance of the Pope’s message and leadership style. “The positive energy at St. Peter’s was overwhelming this morning. Pope Leo XIV made clear he will be a strong leader who is focused on a caring agenda. His choice of readings and his homily at his inaugural Mass were unambiguous – the church should be on the side of peace.”
Joe Courtney was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1953 and currently resides in Vernon. He graduated from Tufts University with a BA in 1975 and earned a JD from the University of Connecticut in 1978.
