Rep. Joe Courtney, who represents Connecticut’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, marked the anniversary of former President Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs and highlighted recent engagements with constituents in a series of posts on social media.
On April 2, 2026, Courtney reflected on the impact of tariff policies introduced a year earlier: “Today marks one year since President Trump announced his so-called ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs. After the President promised to ‘rapidly bring down costs and princes,’ families and small business in eastern CT are being hit with higher prices due to his tariff policies.”
The following day, April 3, he thanked students for hosting him at a local school: “Thanks to Mr. Caldwell’s 8th grade class at the Ashford School for hosting me for a conversation about the economy and the importance of mental health care access for students. It was inspiring to hear from such thoughtful and engaged young people.”
Later that day, Courtney posted about meeting with a constituent: “Thanks to my constituent Jonathan for stopping by my Washington office ahead of the Final Four. Go Huskies!”
Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd district in Congress since replacing Rob Simmons in 2007 and previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. He was born in Hartford in 1953, is currently 70 years old, lives in Vernon, and holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
