Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, posted a series of tweets in early April 2026 highlighting local sports and commending military efforts.

On April 3, Courtney expressed support for the University of Connecticut’s basketball team ahead of an important weekend, writing “Big weekend ahead for UConn. Go Huskies!”

The following day, he referenced a conversation with Thomas Emerick on the Remember That Game Podcast about a notable college basketball event: “Ahead of tonight’s game, take a look back at my conversation with Thomas Emerick, host of Remember That Game Podcast. We discussed the legendary UConn-Duke ’99 national championship game. Still one for the history books.” The UConn-Duke matchup in 1999 remains significant in NCAA men’s basketball history.

On April 5, Courtney praised military personnel for their actions overseas: “Outstanding work by Special Forces to rescue the F-15 airman in Iran. Job extremely well done.”

Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Rob Simmons in 2007 and previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon, he is an alumnus of Tufts University and holds a law degree from the University of Connecticut.
