Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, highlighted recent developments in southeastern Connecticut through a series of posts on his Twitter account between May 5 and May 6, 2026.
On May 5, Courtney discussed the ongoing impact of federal infrastructure investment, stating: “The Infrastructure Law that we passed back in 2021 is still delivering for southeastern CT powering major projects and creating good jobs. Today, we kicked off the next phrase of work on northbound span of the Gold Star Memorial Bridge. With southeastern CT’s economy on rise,” (May 5, 2026).
Later that day, he visited a local business in Norwich and shared: “Stopped by Mini Melts in Norwich with new CEO Ilana Fischer, a Waterford native. The ice cream company has 80 employees in Norwich and can produce 300 ICE CREAM cups per minute, which are sold nationwide, including at the Mystic Aquarium and the National Zoo in Washington, DC.” (May 5, 2026).
On May 6, Courtney reported on efforts to expand access to social services: “Yesterday in Norwich, I joined Governor Lamont for the opening of Connecticut’s second Opportunity Center, a single destination where people can access a full range of services like Medicaid, SNAP, and LIHEAP. The new Norwich center has a special focus on serving families and” (May 6, 2026).
Courtney’s activities reflect his ongoing engagement with economic development and public service initiatives within his district. He succeeded Rob Simmons as representative in Congress after being elected in 2007 and previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon at age 70, Courtney holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
