Rep. Joe Courtney, who represents Connecticut’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, shared updates on social media regarding local sports and federal funding initiatives for housing and addiction treatment in his community.

On March 30, 2026, Courtney commented on a recent sporting event, stating: “Woke up this morning and watched the replays. Down 19, come back, looked like it would not be enough, and then clutch from the 19-year-old. I wasn’t dreaming. Amazing win.”

The following day, March 31, he addressed the need for increased housing in local towns: “Our towns urgently need more housing. In Hebron, I worked with the town to secure $250,000 in federal Community Project funding for the Church Street Commons housing rehabilitation project. I visited the site of the project next to St. Peter’s Church today with Hebron First”.

Later that same day, Courtney discussed efforts to improve substance use and mental health treatment access: “Access to quality substance use and mental health treatment is critical to fighting addiction in our communities. As a 2023 Community Project, I worked with the Southeastern Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence to secure $915K in federal funding for renovations to their”.

Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd District since replacing Rob Simmons in 2007 and previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon at age 70, Courtney holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
