In a tweet dated May 12, 2025, he expressed concerns about a potential aviation decision involving a luxury jet gifted from Qatar. Later on May 12, Rep. Courtney criticized proposed Medicaid cuts by Republicans via another tweet. He declared these actions as “Totally unacceptable.” Emphasizing the impact on healthcare access for millions, he argued that these cuts are intended to fund tax reductions for the wealthiest one percent. In response to these proposals, he mentioned collaborating with Connecticut hospitals and healthcare professionals to oppose what he described as reckless measures.
Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon, Joe Courtney has been an active member of Congress since succeeding Rob Simmons in 2007. His educational background includes degrees from Tufts University and the University of Connecticut School of Law.
