He emphasized the importance of USDA funding that enables free breakfast and lunch for these students and stated his dedication to protecting food programs from budget cuts.
The following day, on July 3, 2025, he expressed his opposition to a recent legislative measure which he described as “the largest health care cut in U.S. history.” He criticized it as a tax giveaway for the wealthy and noted its potential to increase the deficit by $3.4 trillion. Joe Courtney was born in Hartford in 1953 and resides in Vernon. He holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD). Before joining Congress in 2007 after replacing Rob Simmons, he served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995.
