Rep. Joe Courtney, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 2nd district, shared his experiences and opinions on recent events through a series of tweets. Courtney has been serving in Congress since 2007, following his tenure in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995.

On March 9, 2025, Rep. Joe Courtney tweeted about attending a mass at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church in Willimantic with his wife Audrey. He noted that “Father John Bylich and his devout hard working congregation prayed for the people and nation of Ukraine.” After the service, he stayed for coffee and pastries and mentioned discussing current events with attendees.

On March 11, 2025, Rep. Courtney expressed concerns regarding tariffs affecting shipbuilders in Hartford. In his tweet, he stated that “shipbuilders are paying 26% more on rolled steel – both foreign & domestic – because of Trump’s tariff war.” He criticized President Trump for planning to double tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada to 50%, arguing it undermines efforts to build ships.

Later on March 11, Rep. Courtney addressed President Trump’s educational policies via Twitter. He asserted that “Trump’s first step to fulfill his Project 2025 promise to eliminate the Education Department” is disguised as an efficiency mandate but is actually aimed at providing tax cuts benefiting billionaires.
