On April 5, 2025, Courtney announced the commissioning of the USS Iowa, an addition to the Virginia-class submarines. The event marked a moment of pride for those involved. He welcomed the submarine with enthusiasm, stating, “Welcome into the submarine force, USS Iowa! Today, we celebrated the commissioning of the 24th boat in the Virginia-class – built and homeported in Groton. Congratulations to Commanding Officer Coy, the entire Iowa crew, and the highly skilled Groton shipbuilders who saw.”

Acknowledging a significant victory in college sports, Courtney drew attention to the achievements of the University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball team. On April 6, 2025, he expressed his admiration for the team’s resilience, noting, “It’s been nine years since UConn women have won a title. Naysayers said it would never happen again but this team showed Husky pride! What a team!”.

Following this, on April 7, 2025, Courtney further recognized the women’s basketball team for their exceptional performance. Celebrating their 12th national title, he commended the leadership of their coach, stating, “The UConn Women Huskies once again rose to the occasion. 12 national titles! Just an amazing team led by an amazing coach. As the Representative for the College Basketball Capital of the World, I spoke on the House Floor to congratulate the team and Head Coach Geno Auriemma.”
