Rep. Joe Courtney, who represents Connecticut’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates this week on legislative action and local events related to the submarine industry.
On April 9, Courtney addressed recent Congressional developments, stating: “Today, House Speaker Mike Johnson blocked consideration of a War Powers Resolution to end President Trump’s war in Iran. I voted to end this unilateral war of choice over a month ago. There is bipartisan support to put checks and balances in place and end it now. Congress cannot”. The post reflects ongoing debate within Congress regarding military engagement and oversight.
Courtney also marked National Submarine Day on April 11 with a message recognizing the contributions of Navy personnel and regional shipbuilders: “From the Submarine Capital of the World, wishing a happy National Submarine Day to U.S. Navy submariners and eastern CT shipbuilders and suppliers.”
Later that same day, he highlighted workforce activity at Electric Boat’s hiring fair: “This line wrapping around the Waterford Crystal Mall today at Electric Boat’s hiring fair in vivid proof of the historic expansion of our state’s submarine industrial base in 2026. Eastern Connecticut is truly the Submarine Capital of the World.” His comments point to increased job opportunities and industrial growth tied to submarine manufacturing in eastern Connecticut.
Courtney has served as U.S. Representative for Connecticut’s 2nd District since 2007, after previously serving in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953, he currently resides in Vernon and holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
