Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, has used his social media platform to comment on recent national and local developments, including federal spending priorities, the impact of international conflict on fuel prices, and ongoing infrastructure projects in Connecticut.
On March 31, 2026, Courtney criticized the Trump Administration’s proposed military spending for the conflict in Iran. He stated: “The Trump Administration is asking Congress to pass a $200 billion to pay for the President’s war in Iran. We could lower health care costs by restoring ACA tax credits with just a fraction of that cost. Instead, there is now reporting that the House majority is considering https://t.co/ppxXICRHuG”.
Later that day, Courtney addressed rising fuel prices in eastern Connecticut following the start of hostilities with Iran. He posted: “On the road in eastern Connecticut it’s obvious that gas prices have shot up since the start of the war in Iran. $4.09/gallon in Killingly on Saturday. Diesel prices and home heating fuel are close to $6.00/Gallon. President Trump’s ignored military advice that Iran would close https://t.co/HXMy6LFxYm”.
On April 1, 2026, Courtney highlighted federal investment in local infrastructure through recent legislation: “Everyone relies on transportation infrastructure. The Infrastructure Law passed by Congress in 2021 provided a long-awaited investment to upgrade and repair Connecticut’s historic and aging infrastructure. This law is still funding major projects across eastern CT like the Gold https://t.co/yfLFCSMMgx”.
Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd District since defeating Rob Simmons in 2007 and previously served as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon, he holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
