Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, recently used his social media platform to address issues related to federal education support and trade policy in the United States.
On February 12, 2026, Courtney expressed gratitude for local educational leaders visiting Washington and raised concerns about proposed changes to federal education funding: “Thanks to the CT Association of Schools & principals from Naubuc Elementary in Glastonbury & G.H. Robertson Immediate School in Coventry for coming to Washington to advocate for continued federal support of K-12 education. President Trump’s reckless push to abolish the https://t.co/OJC8P13bIv”.
The following day, February 13, 2026, he commented on recent legislative action regarding tariffs: “The House just took an extraordinary vote to strike down President Trump’s tariffs on Canada – our closest neighbor and a great ally. Congress must go further to reclaim our authority over taxes, vested in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution. https://t.co/SbtsyZLqBu”.
Later that same day, Courtney cited new analysis on tariff costs and reiterated his position: “Tariffs are a tax, and Americans are paying 95% of the cost of Trump tariffs according to new nonpartisan analysis. Finally, the House voted this week to rescind Trump tariffs on Canada. We must go further and reclaim Congress’ authority over trade policy. The cost of living https://t.co/bI4ArR7ws9”.
Courtney has served as Connecticut’s representative in Congress since replacing Rob Simmons in 2007 and previously held office in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon, Courtney is an alumnus of Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
