Rep. Joe Courtney, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 2nd district, shared several tweets highlighting significant issues affecting farmers and trade policies. His statements focused on recent actions by the Trump Administration and their implications for various sectors.

On February 12, 2025, Rep. Courtney commented on a decision by the Trump Administration to freeze USDA grants, which were used by Eastern Connecticut farmers to lower their operating costs. He stated that this action was taken without warning and has placed farmers “on the hook for millions.” “Eastern CT farmers use USDA grants to lower their operating costs.”

Later that day, Rep. Courtney referenced an article from The Wall Street Journal describing President Trump’s tariffs on Canada and Mexico as “the dumbest trade war ever.” He noted that these tariffs would increase costs for Americans, particularly affecting groceries and housing, with America’s farmers and homebuilders expressing concern over these measures. “The pro-Trump Wall Street Journal accurately deemed President Trump’s tariffs on Canada & Mexico as the ‘dumbest trade war ever’.”

On February 13, 2025, Rep. Courtney thanked more than 10,000 participants who joined a telephone town hall meeting to discuss concerns about the unprecedented issuance of 89 executive orders within three weeks. He expressed gratitude for those who voiced their opinions during this session. “Thank you to the over 10,000 people who tuned into last night’s telephone town hall.”
