Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, has highlighted local economic and social initiatives in a series of recent posts on his official Twitter account.
On May 7, 2026, Courtney discussed regional infrastructure and industry development, stating: “Southeastern CT’s submarine industry is on a long-term growth trajectory in Groton, New London, and now at the former Crystal Mall in Waterford. Repairing the Gold Star Bridge is an investment in our region’s economic future. The Infrastructure Law of 2021 is delivering the”.
The following day, May 8, he expressed appreciation for senior support programs after visiting Suffield House: “Thanks to Suffield House for hosting me for a Q&A yesterday. We discussed the need to protect Social Security benefits for seniors today and future generations. 86 years after Ida May Fuller received the first Social Security check in Rutland, Vermont, over 173,000 people in”.
Later that same day during Teacher Appreciation Week, Courtney acknowledged educators’ contributions: “This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. I am grateful to the teachers across eastern Connecticut who work tirelessly for their students. Thank you for shaping the next generation!”
Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd District since replacing Rob Simmons in Congress nearly two decades ago. Before his congressional service beginning in 2007, he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon at age 70, Courtney holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
