U.S. Representative Joe Courtney, who represents Connecticut’s 2nd district in Congress, recently highlighted several community projects and military events in a series of social media posts. The tweets, posted on July 27 and 28, 2025, focused on infrastructure improvements and support for local servicemembers.
On July 27, Courtney attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the England Road Bridge in Chaplin. He wrote: “In Chaplin, I joined First Selectman Juan Roman and the Public Works team at the ribbon cutting for the fully replaced England Road Bridge – 80% funded by the Infrastructure Law of 2021. Four years after Congress passed the Infrastructure Law, it continues to deliver for eastern” (July 27, 2025).
Later that day, he commented on another local development project: “Glad to see Vernon’s senior center expansion project get underway. This is going to bring more programming with more space to stay healthy and active. And it’s made possible by $1.87M in federal funding passed by Congress and allocated to Vernon back in 2021.” (July 27, 2025).
On July 28, Courtney participated in a ceremony honoring Connecticut National Guard members at Bradley Air Base. He stated: “It was an honor to join servicemembers and their families at the CT National Guard send-off and “welcome home” ceremony at Bradley Air Base. The 242nd Engineering unit returned from Jordan and the 103rd Airlift and Air Control units are deploying for missions in Africa and the” (July 28, 2025).
Courtney has served as U.S. Representative for Connecticut’s 2nd District since replacing Rob Simmons in 2007. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953, Courtney currently resides in Vernon. He holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
