Rep. Joe Courtney, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, shared his views and experiences on social media regarding local events and initiatives. Courtney has been actively involved in various community engagements and legislative matters.
On May 5, 2025, Courtney expressed his admiration for the machinists at Pratt and Whitney facilities in East Hartford and Middletown, stating that they are “the best of the best in precision manufacturing.” He highlighted his role as a member of the House Armed Services Committee to emphasize how these skills meet the specific needs of the Air Force. “The Machinists at Pratt and Whitney facilities in East Hartford and Middletown are the best of the best in precision manufacturing. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I have a front row seat to see how their skills are primed for the specific needs of Air Force” (May 5, 2025).
Later that day, he attended Quiet Corner Pride held over the weekend at Rotary Park in Putnam. He noted a significant turnout from local organizations showing support for LGBTQ+ rights and individual freedom. “Great to join the huge turnout at Quiet Corner Pride over the weekend. So many local organizations came out to Rotary Park in Putnam to show strong support for the LGBTQ+ community and everyone’s right to live freely as who they are.” (May 5, 2025).
On May 6, 2025, Courtney took time to recognize Teacher Appreciation Week by praising eastern Connecticut’s educators for their dedication and contribution towards student success. “Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all of eastern Connecticut’s fantastic, hard working educators! Your work sets students and our entire region up for success.” (May 6, 2025).
Courtney was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1953 and currently resides in Vernon. He graduated from Tufts University with a BA in 1975 and earned a JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1978.
