Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, posted a series of updates on April 15, 2026, covering international defense collaboration, the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown, and federal education support.
On the morning of April 15, Courtney highlighted a meeting with Australian MP Luke Gosling in Washington, D.C., writing: “Great to welcome Australian MP Luke Gosling to Washington, DC. We caught up on the U.S. Submarine Industrial Base’s rapid growth IN 2025-26 that will deliver for the Australian Navy on time. Luke visited the Groton Sub Base 3 years ago, which today is training Australian sailors”.
Later that day, Courtney addressed the prolonged shutdown at the Department of Homeland Security: “We are now on day 61 of the shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security with no end in sight. Speaker Johnson is needlessly prolonging the shutdown by refusing to bring the Senate-passed deal to the House floor for a vote. Every single Senator from Bernie Sanders on the left”.
In an evening post, Courtney discussed his participation in an event focused on educational opportunities: “Every student deserves the chance to achieve success. I joined the New England Educational Opportunity Association to talk about the fight to protect federal support for education pathways such as TRIO and gear up to protect from the Trump Administration’s plan to abolish the”.
Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd District since succeeding Rob Simmons in 2007 and previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon at age 70, he holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and University of Connecticut (JD).
