Joe Courtney, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress since 2007, representing Connecticut’s 2nd district, recently discussed important developments affecting eastern Connecticut and national issues. Born in Hartford in 1953, Joe Courtney has a background in law and politics, having previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives.
On May 1, 2025, Rep. Courtney announced significant advancements for shipbuilders in eastern Connecticut through his tweet, noting, “Congress & the Navy just delivered 2 wins for eastern Connecticut shipbuilders: Funding for 2 more Virginia class submarines AND a wage increase for shipyard workers. Welcome news!”
Later that day, he addressed the impact of tariffs on housing affordability in another post: “All hardworking people should be able to afford a home. But for too many, homeownership has become unattainable. Now, Trump Tariffs are making it worse by raising construction costs. Congress needs to stop the Trump Tariffs & incentivize new construction. When we build more.”
