Rep. Joe Courtney, currently serving as a United States Congressman for Connecticut’s 2nd district, has shared insights on various national and local issues through recent social media posts. Courtney, a long-standing political figure who replaced Rob Simmons in 2007, has a history in the Connecticut House of Representatives and holds degrees from Tufts University and the University of Connecticut.
In a tweet posted on April 23, 2025, Courtney criticized a portrayal of a ceasefire, terming it a “surrender to a lawless invader.” He warned against the enemy regrouping for future aggression and likened the situation to “the Ghost of Munich back from the dead in 2025.”
On April 24, 2025, Courtney spoke against President Trump’s tariffs, expressing concerns about their adverse effects on consumers and international trade relationships, such as the F35 sales to Canada that affect jobs in Connecticut. He called these tariffs “totally unjustified and illegal,” emphasizing that the constitutional power rests with Congress.
In another tweet later on April 24, 2025, Courtney highlighted a local initiative at Tourtelotte Memorial High School in Thompson, Connecticut. He noted the school’s collaboration with Electric Boat shipyard for job interviews and welding tests supported by Perkins Grant funding, which helped them establish welding booths for students.
Courtney was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1953 and resides in Vernon. Throughout his career, he has maintained a focus on both state and federal legislative responsibilities.
