Congressman Joe Courtney, representing Connecticut’s 2nd District, expressed his commendations, celebrations, and condolences in his latest social media updates. Notably, Courtney has served in the U.S. Congress since 2007, having replaced Rob Simmons, and previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

On April 19, 2025, Congressman Courtney congratulated Michelle Nicholson, the Owner and Founder of The Flour Girl Bakery/Cafe. In his tweet, he stated, “Congratulations to Michelle Nicholson, Owner and Founder of The Flour Girl Bakery/Cafe, who earned the 2025 Connecticut Small Business Person of the Year! The Bakery/Cafe is located in Hebron Center and has grown to a 40-person operation in less than 5 years. I joined SBA”.

On April 20, 2025, Courtney conveyed his festive wishes with a succinct message, “Wishing a happy Easter to everyone celebrating in eastern Connecticut!”.

A day later, on April 21, 2025, he joined many around the world in mourning the passing of Pope Francis. Reflecting on the Pope’s leadership, Courtney remarked, “I join the world in mourning the loss of Pope Francis— a leader ‘of peace, for peace.’ He urged us to lift up the poor, protect our planet, and show compassion to migrants and refugees. I heard this firsthand from Francis in his 2015 address to Congress; his message rings louder”.

Courtney, who holds a law degree from the University of Connecticut, resides in Vernon, Connecticut. He was born in Hartford in 1953 and graduated from Tufts University in 1975.
