Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, recently posted a series of messages on social media addressing key issues affecting Americans, including Social Security, student loan forgiveness, and veterans’ health care.
On April 16, 2026, Courtney thanked the AARP for its advocacy efforts in Washington, focusing on challenges facing older Americans. He stated: “Thank you AARP for coming to Washington to advocate for solutions to the challenges facing older Americans today. Social Security’s long-term solvency is top of the agenda, along with other affordability issues like preventing financial fraud and lessening the burden facing”.
Later that day, he commented on changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. According to his post: “The 20-year-old Public Service Loan Forgiveness program has worked to incentivize college graduates to enter critical careers like military service, nursing, teaching, and public safety. A radical new rule by the Trump Admin will pick and choose which public servants receive loan”.
On April 17, 2026, Courtney highlighted ongoing support for veterans exposed to Agent Orange: “Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to Agent Orange-exposed veterans. They bravely served our nation, but for years suffered from toxic-exposure illnesses without the care and benefits they earned. The PACT Act of 2022 extended VA care to thousands of Agent Orange veterans, and”.
Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd District in Congress since succeeding Rob Simmons in 2007. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon at age 70, Courtney holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
