U.S. Representative Joe Courtney, who serves Connecticut’s 2nd district, addressed a range of national issues in recent posts on his official social media account.
On April 1, 2026, Courtney highlighted the burden of rising prescription drug costs, stating: “Americans are facing a cost-of-living crisis, and for many, the relentless increase in the cost of life-saving prescription drugs is, by far, the most terrifying threat to economic and health care security. On https://t.co/wCgTBQdZoJ, I wrote that if President Trump is serious https://t.co/pcpsDN3A2H”.
The following day, April 2, he turned attention to student debt and federal lending practices: “The average college student who takes out a federal student loan today would pay over $14,000 in interest over the standard 10-year period. The federal government should not be making a profit from Americans caught in this debt trap. It serves no public interest.”
Later on April 2, Courtney criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson regarding ongoing government operations: “The dysfunction over the DHS shutdown is almost too galling to believe. For no reason, House Speaker Mike Johnson has chosen to prolong the shutdown without an end date. I explain here. https://t.co/3Xt33qSnv3”
Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd congressional district since replacing Rob Simmons in 2007 and previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon at age 70, Courtney holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
