Rep. Joe Courtney, a longstanding representative of Connecticut’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared insights and updates through his social media posts. With a career spanning several decades, Courtney continues to engage with his constituents on various issues.

On March 7, 2025, Rep. Courtney expressed concerns about the potential impact of proposed Medicaid cuts by the GOP. He highlighted that “Medicaid provides care from birth (42% of live births in Connecticut are covered by Medicaid) all the way through the end of life and everywhere in between.” He warned that these services would be adversely affected by the House-passed $880 billion cut to Medicaid.

Later that day, Courtney shared a lighter moment from his visit to Lake Street School in Vernon. He thanked Ms. Binkowski’s kindergarten class for welcoming him to read with them, stating “We read Buffalo Fluffalo by Bess Kalb, a book that encourages us to accept ourselves for who we are.” The session was described as enjoyable and brought laughter among those present.

On March 8, 2025, Rep. Courtney reported on an unfortunate incident involving Grower Direct Farms in Somers. A fire had devastated this family-run operation known for its state-of-the-art indoor growing facilities. In his post, he remarked that “the community is 100% behind the Somers Fire Department and all the…” indicating strong local support for recovery efforts following the disaster.
