Rep. Joe Courtney, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 2nd district, recently shared several updates on Twitter regarding legislative progress and local initiatives. Courtney has been in office since 2007, following his service in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995.

On November 25, 2024, Rep. Courtney announced progress on a postal issue affecting residents of Scotland, a small town dealing with multiple zip codes. He stated that “The residents of the small town of Scotland–who are fed up with the zip code system that imposes six zip codes–have been heard in Washington.” He further mentioned that “Last week, the U.S. House Committee that oversees the Postal Service voted to advance legislation that I introduced to mandate that USPS…”

On November 26, 2024, Rep. Courtney visited Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) to observe their efforts in replacing outdated natural gas pipelines. He noted significant advancements thanks to federal funding: “I caught up with Norwich Public Utilities to see firsthand their ongoing work to replace old natural gas pipelines.” He acknowledged the contribution of over $20 million from federal infrastructure law funding towards enhancing safety and reliability.

Later on November 26, Rep. Courtney commented on an international diplomatic achievement involving Israel and Hezbollah: “The ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hezbollah is a breakthrough that will save countless innocent lives and demonstrates that diplomacy can work in the Middle East.” He praised US diplomat Amos Hochstein for his role in facilitating this agreement through shuttle negotiations.
