Rep. Joe Courtney, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, shared a series of tweets addressing local agriculture, healthcare workers, and a significant religious milestone. Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1953 and now residing in Vernon, Courtney has been an active political figure with a background that includes service in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995.
On May 7, Rep. Courtney expressed his support for local agriculture by visiting Randy Collins at his farm Collinswood Mushrooms in Tolland. He emphasized the importance of farming to eastern Connecticut’s identity and advocated for supporting small farms. “Great to catch up with Randy Collins at his farm Collinswood Mushrooms in Tolland. You can find the farm’s mushrooms on the menu at local restaurants and at farmers’ markets.”
The following day, on May 8, Rep. Courtney acknowledged National Nurses Week by extending gratitude to nurses in eastern Connecticut. He highlighted the essential role nurses play in healthcare and stressed the need for ensuring their workplaces are safe. “Happy National Nurses Week to eastern Connecticut’s nurses! We rely on nurses to care for us – it’s past time we do the same for them by ensuring safe workplaces.”
Later that day, Rep. Courtney congratulated Pope Leo XIV on becoming the first American pope, marking it as a historic moment for both the Church and Catholics across the United States. He conveyed hopes that Pope Leo XIV’s leadership would inspire solutions to contemporary challenges with compassion and dignity. “Congratulations to Pope Leo XIV. The first American pope is a historic moment for the Church and Catholics in the United States.”
