Rep. Joe Courtney, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 2nd district, recently shared updates on social media regarding manufacturing jobs, healthcare policy, and child care support in his constituency.

On May 13, 2025, Rep. Courtney highlighted the presence of numerous manufacturing jobs in eastern Connecticut. He stated, “There are so many good manufacturing jobs in eastern CT. Last week, I stopped by the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce’s Manufacturing Career Fair, which connected local manufacturers & high school students.” He noted an impressive turnout from both large and small companies at the event.

Later that day, he addressed concerns about proposed Medicaid cuts by the GOP. According to Courtney’s tweet on May 13, “According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget office, the GOP’s Medicaid cuts will take health coverage away from 8.6 million Americans – just to partially pay for a tax break for the top 1%.” He emphasized that this is not partisan fear mongering and urged individuals to consult healthcare professionals about these potential impacts.

On May 14, Rep. Courtney visited TVCCA’s child care center in New London and discussed federal support for such facilities. In his post, he remarked on his meeting with staff supported by the federal Head Start program: “Great to catch up with the staff at TVCCA’s child care center in New London.” He also expressed concern over efforts by the Trump Administration to eliminate this program amidst existing challenges faced by families in “day care deserts.”

Joe Courtney has been serving Connecticut’s 2nd District since replacing Rob Simmons in 2007. Before joining Congress, he served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon, Courtney graduated from Tufts University with a BA and earned a JD from the University of Connecticut.
