Rep. Joe Courtney, who represents Connecticut’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on his official social media account addressing both local and international issues.
On April 5, 2026, Courtney shared a holiday greeting to his constituents: “Wishing a happy Easter to everyone celebrating in eastern Connecticut and beyond!”
Later that same day, he commented on escalating tensions involving Iran: “A Presidential threat sprinkled with F bombs to destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran is a dark moment for our nation. Such an attack will punish the very people who are the victims of Iran’s regime, and escalate this war which has caused an international energy crisis.” This post came amid ongoing concerns about rising global energy prices linked to instability in the region.
On April 6, 2026, Courtney addressed economic challenges facing businesses in his district: “Tariffs are making it harder for local businesses to plan ahead. Today, I met with Mattern Construction to talk about how tariffs are affecting their work. The biggest challenge I heard was uncertainty, which is making it harder to plan projects and manage costs. We need to do”
Courtney has represented Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007 after succeeding Rob Simmons. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon, Courtney holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
