Rep. Joe Courtney, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 2nd district since 2007, recently used his social media platform to address several pressing national and regional issues, including federal support for special education and congressional authority over military actions.
On April 13, 2026, Courtney stated: “I’m fighting to increase long-overdue federal support for special education and to keep education a national priority amid the Trump Administration’s plan to abolish the Department of Education. Last week, I met with eastern CT school superintendents Dr. Jack Zamary from https://t.co/9U47qhh5NB”.
Addressing foreign policy concerns on April 15, 2026, Courtney wrote: “45 days ago, President Trump launched an unauthorized war on Iran. This week, the House has an opportunity to show that we are listening to the American people and are aware of the damage caused by this war by passing a bipartisan War Powers Resolution. I’m calling on my https://t.co/YEDqwBlHWR”.
Later that same day, he continued: “Thank you to the New England Council for hosting me this week to discuss the top issues for our region. Across the Second District, the war in Iran and rising costs due to the war’s energy crisis are a top concern. Congress cannot wait to reclaim its constitutional authority and https://t.co/cB9vNWwcE5”.
Courtney’s recent statements reflect his ongoing legislative priorities in Washington as well as his engagement with constituents in Connecticut’s Second District—a seat he has held since succeeding Rob Simmons in 2007. Before serving in Congress, Courtney was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. He was born in Hartford in 1953 and currently resides in Vernon at age 70. His educational background includes a BA from Tufts University (1975) and a JD from the University of Connecticut (1978).
