Rep. Joe Courtney, who has represented Connecticut’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress since 2007, used his social media platform to address recent events affecting both his state and international affairs.
On February 23, 2026, Rep. Courtney posted a message expressing gratitude for local emergency services amid severe weather: “Thank you to Connecticut’s emergency services and first responders for working to keep people safe during this blizzard. Please continue to follow the guidance of local and state officials. Stay indoors and off the roads.” (February 23, 2026).
Later that day, he highlighted international cooperation following a medical emergency involving a U.S. submariner: “When a U.S. submariner in the North Atlantic needed immediate medical care on Saturday, our allies Denmark and Greenland were there to help without hesitation.
To the people of Denmark and Greenland: Your caring response is deeply appreciated and will be long remembered.” (February 23, 2026).
On February 24, Rep. Courtney marked an important geopolitical anniversary with another post: “Today marks four years since Russia launched its full-scale, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. For four years, the people of Ukraine have bravely defended their homeland. The U.S. must stand by our partners – not throw them under the bus by rewarding Putin for his vicious attack.” (February 24, 2026).
Courtney’s public service record extends beyond Congress; he served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995 before joining Congress in place of Rob Simmons in 2007. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon at age 70, Courtney holds degrees from Tufts University (BA) and the University of Connecticut (JD).
