Rep. Joe Courtney, who represents Connecticut’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, announced on social media that the House has passed this year’s annual defense authorization bill, highlighting provisions that benefit Connecticut’s submarine builders.
On December 11, 2025, Courtney wrote: “The House just passed this year’s annual defense authorization bill. It includes major wins for Connecticut submarine builders:
•Wage improvement funding for shipbuilders
•Increased funding Virginia submarines
•Funding to keep Columbia submarine construction on track https://t.co/9wvCwGJtsJ“
Later the same day, he reiterated his support for the legislation, stating: “This year’s defense bill is a win for eastern Connecticut. https://t.co/HklKGg40xg” (December 11, 2025).
The following day, Courtney commented on congressional oversight of executive actions: “This week, Congress finally did its job by putting basic checks and balances on the President’s agenda. https://t.co/Ct5T0Wal3Y” (December 12, 2025).
Courtney has served as a member of Congress since 2007 after replacing Rob Simmons and previously held office in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1953 and currently residing in Vernon at age 70, Courtney holds degrees from Tufts University and the University of Connecticut.
