During the first quarter of 2026, Apple Rehab Uncasville emerged as the largest nursing facility in Southeastern Ct County, sharing this position with Bride Brook Rehabilitation & Nursing Center and Complete Care at Groton Regency, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows. These three nursing homes were tied in size by resident averages.

The facility maintained 130 beds throughout the period, which exceeds the county’s average by 25 beds as of Q1 2026. An average of 112.2 residents received care there each day during the quarter.

CMS gave Apple Rehab Uncasville a total rating of 2 out of 5, which falls short of Connecticut’s overall nursing home average of 3.1.

In the initial quarter of 2026, Apple Rehab Uncasville had accrued $16,065 in fines and was subject to one penalty.

There were 13 for-profit nursing homes operating in Southeastern Ct County, Connecticut, during the same period.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that the country’s senior population continues to rise while the number of younger people declines. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13% and the under-18 segment decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult demographic has seen significant expansion, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A study published in 2021 estimates nearly half of Americans in this age range, about 28 million people, may need long-term services and support. The research also forecasts that more than a third are likely to require nursing home care in the future.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
